Who is eligible
- Must be pursuing a certification or degree in a clinical health career (priority given to pharmacy, rural health, behavioral health, maternal health, or primary care)
- Must be enrolled as a full or part-time undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited, US-based program (in-person or virtual) at the time of award distribution (November 2026)
- Must be on track to graduate or complete their program no later than August 31, 2027
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
- Current physicians seeking additional certifications or degrees are not eligible
- Previous United Health Foundation scholarship recipients are not eligible
- Employees of UnitedHealth Group, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, or acquired organizations, and their immediate family members, are not eligible
What you'll need
- Demonstration of financial need
- Short Answer response (approximately 250 words) answering three prompts: 1) "Describe your future goals as a health care provider." 2) "Describe a time when you faced a professional challenge at work, at school or in a similar setting, such as working with a difficult personality, limited resources, or unclear direction. What steps did you take to address or eliminate the challenge to still achieve your goal?" 3) "How do you plan to use your professional experiences and career to improve access to quality health care?"
