PABJ Multimedia Scholarship Challenge

The Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists offers two $5,000 scholarships to college students in the Philadelphia region pursuing a career in journalism or multimedia arts. Eligible students must submit work examples and an essay addressing their career inspiration and goals.

Who is eligible

  • Enrolled full-time in a four-year accredited college in the Philadelphia region (Philly, South Jersey, Delaware)
  • Must currently have a minimum of 12 credits
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in journalism or communications (i.e. television, radio, print, new media) or in another major working toward a journalism career
  • Must be present at the Awards & Scholarship Gala to receive the scholarship award

  • A minimum of 2 examples of your work
  • Letter of recommendation from a journalism or media professor
  • Essay (1,200 words, typed & double spaced): "What inspired you to pursue a career in journalism? Tell us about a personal experience that shaped your interest in journalism. What qualities do you think are essential for a successful journalist?"

  • Prepare your 1,200-word double-spaced essay, official transcript, letter of recommendation, and two work examples.
