Dr. Frank D. Fontana Memorial Scholarship
In collaboration with Heart of America Eye Care Congress, this scholarship honors the legacy of Dr. Frank D. Fontana by supporting future leaders in optometry. One winner receives a $4,250 scholarship and a $750 travel grant to attend the conference.

Who is eligible
- Must be a third- or fourth-year optometry student in good standing
- Must attend any accredited school or college of optometry
- Must have residency from any of the five Heart of America Eye Care Congress member states (Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, and Nebraska) OR provide proof of enrollment at either the University of Missouri College of Optometry or Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry
- Must attend the Heart of America Eye Care Congress to receive the scholarship and travel grant
What you'll need
- Essay (1,500 words): Submit a written essay on how you demonstrate the four professional characteristics in which Dr. Fontana excelled: Clinical performance, Empathetic patient care, Ability and interest to adopt technology, and Strong interest in developing/participating in the OD community.
- Letters of Recommendation: Provide two letters of recommendation from faculty showing how you demonstrate these characteristics, with at least one letter from your clinical faculty
