Tips for Black women applying to scholarships
Cast a wide net. Awards for Black women come from everywhere — family foundations, professional associations, sororities, HBCU alumni chapters, and corporate programs. Don't skip the smaller ones; a few $500 or $1,000 awards can cover books, housing, or a semester's fees.
Start early, but don't stop in spring. A lot of deadlines fall between January and April, but plenty of foundations accept applications year-round. We flag awards closing within 45 days so you don't miss the window.
