Kaiser Permanente Northern California Medical Student Scholarship
A scholarship program to recognize third-year medical students who show exceptional dedication to serving underserved communities and have an interest in Kaiser Permanente Northern California residency programs. Recipients can receive a $2,500 scholarship sent to their school and are eligible for an additional $5,000 travel stipend upon completing a fourth-year clerkship rotation.

Who is eligible
- Be a current third-year medical student in good academic standing who expects to graduate in the spring of 2028 (for the 2027 scholarship cycle)
- Attend an accredited medical, osteopathic, or podiatric school
- Interested in seeking a residency in Kaiser Permanente Northern California
- Demonstrate commitment to underserved communities
What you'll need

- Short essay (500 words max): Describe your community involvement and your commitment to under-served communities
- Letter from medical, osteopathic, or podiatric school confirming good academic standing (transcripts not accepted)
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a school professor/clinician and one supporting your work in under-served communities
How to apply
- Access the online application form on the KPNC residency website during the active application period (September 10 – November 30).
- Complete the application questions, including a short text prompt on why you are interested in joining a Kaiser Permanente Northern California Residency Program.
- Upload your Curriculum Vitae, short essay, and letter of good academic standing in PDF format.
- Upload the two letters of recommendation in PDF format (or have your letter writers email them directly to susana.martinez-caldera@kp.org).
