Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship
In partnership with the PhD Project and the AMA Academic Council, the Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship seeks to empower doctoral students from diverse backgrounds to earn PhDs. The program helps recipients inspire and educate the next generation of business leaders.

Who is eligible
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.
- Must be enrolled in a full-time AACSB accredited marketing doctoral program, or an advertising doctoral program.
- Must have successfully completed at least one year of the program.
- Must not have previously received a Valuing Diversity Scholarship.
What you'll need
- Two letters of recommendation (one from the applicant’s advisor or Doctoral Program Coordinator) speaking to the candidate’s academic work or initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to enriching education and building a broader pipeline of business leaders.
- Essay (approx. 500 words, 2-page double-spaced Microsoft Word document in 12 pt. type): "an essay explaining how receiving a Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship will help you further your research efforts. Your essay also should address one of the following: How your dissertation research incorporates conceptual, design, or methods issues related to creating a more inclusive and expansive pool of workplace talent; How your dissertation research contributes to advancing the field of marketing; How your dissertation research incorporates any innovative theories or advanced, cutting-edge designs, methods, or approaches."
- Sources list on an additional page (if sources are mentioned in the essay; does not count against the two-page limit).
How to apply
- Prepare application materials, including the two-page essay and list of sources if applicable.
- Request two letters of recommendation, with at least one coming from your advisor or Doctoral Program Coordinator.
- Submit the application when the application portal opens in the winter.
