Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship

The Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship seeks to empower doctoral students from diverse backgrounds to earn PhDs so they can inspire and educate the next generation of business leaders. The scholarship is awarded in partnership with the PhD Project and the AMA Academic Council.

Who is eligible

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent U.S. resident
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time AACSB accredited marketing doctoral program, or an advertising doctoral program
  • Must have successfully completed at least one year of the doctoral program
  • Must not have previously received a Valuing Diversity Scholarship

What you'll need

  • Two letters of recommendation (one from the applicant's advisor or Doctoral Program Coordinator) speaking to the candidate's academic work or initiatives that demonstrate a commitment to enriching education and building a broader pipeline of business leaders
  • Essay (2 pages, double-spaced, 12 pt. type, approximately 500 words, in Microsoft Word format) explaining "how receiving a Valuing Diversity PhD Scholarship will help you further your research efforts." The essay must also address one of three specified prompts: 1) "How your dissertation research incorporates conceptual, design, or methods issues related to creating a more inclusive and expansive pool of workplace talent." 2) "How your dissertation research contributes to advancing the field of marketing." or 3) "How your dissertation research incorporates any innovative theories or advanced, cutting-edge designs, methods, or approaches."
  • An additional page supplying sources mentioned in your essay (does not count toward the two-page maximum)

  • Obtain two letters of recommendation, including one from your advisor or Doctoral Program Coordinator.
  • Submit your application online when the application portal opens in the winter.
